![]() SHANE COUCH
(British, b. 1963) Shane Couch was born in England in 1963 and is an entirely self-taught artist. Couch spent 14 years as an engineer in the Aircraft industry, which taught him the importance of detail and accuracy. Specializing in yachting subjects of the Edwardian and Victorian eras, his subjects are all meticulously planned and researched. Over the years Shane has developed a keen interest in American Yachting subjects from the majestic schooners to the skimming sandbaggers, which have brought him a large following in the United States; indeed some of Couch's chief influences are American artists like Robert Salmon, James E. Buttersworth, Alfred Thompson Bricher and Edward Moran. With a style reminiscent of 19th Century luminism, Couch aims to recreate the elegance and beauty of Edwardian yachting, providing hours of calm reflection to the marine art collector. |
